Project Requirement
To support the construction of a new wind farm, JPS Utilities was appointed to undertake the civil engineering works required for the installation of the underground electrical infrastructure. The project involved excavating joint pits and installing approximately 6,400 metres of ducting to facilitate a new 11kV backup electrical supply. Cable jointing was to be completed by others following the completion of the civil works.
What We Did
- Excavated joint pits in accordance with the SPEN-approved design.
- Installed approximately 6,400 metres of 150mm red Emtelle duct for the 11kV cable route.
- Installed approximately 6,400 metres of 63mm green Emtelle fibre duct alongside the power duct.
- Installed draw ropes and warning tape throughout the duct route.
- Carried out soft sand backfill and reinstatement in accordance with SPEN specifications.
- Prepared the route for the installation of 185mm² three-core cable, with cable jointing undertaken by others.
The Outcome
The project was completed in accordance with the SPEN design and programme, providing a fully compliant underground duct network ready for cable installation and jointing. The completed infrastructure enables the provision of a reliable 11kV backup electrical supply, supporting the energisation and long-term operation of the new wind farm while ensuring future access for maintenance through the integrated fibre duct installation.
