Balmichael Tank, Isle of Arran

Project Requirements

Existing pipework between tanks at Balmichael had become a restriction point within the network. The project required the installation of larger diameter infrastructure to improve water flow and system performance.

What We Did

JPS Utilities excavated and installed 46m of new 315mm HPPE pipework, replacing the existing 250mm connection. The redundant main was excavated, disconnected, decommissioned and safely capped off.

The project involved deep excavations and complex connection works, with trench support and shoring systems implemented to maintain safe working conditions. Following testing, chlorination, sampling and commissioning, we completed full reinstatement works including landscaping and carriageway restoration.

The Outcome

The upgraded connection removed flow restrictions between the tanks, increasing capacity and improving overall network efficiency and reliability.

Consultant

I’d like to say that I was very impressed by the guys that were on the job. The work area was tidy and safe with the barriers up. Kept me up to date with progress when I stopped to speak. The job was quickly completed and left incredibly tidy with grass turned back in – you wouldn’t know they’d been there!
