Project Requirement
JPS Utilities was appointed to locate two existing 250mm flowmeters installed on a pumped rising sewer within the tidal zone at Lamlash. Due to the challenging coastal location, the works required careful planning to manage groundwater, tidal influences and deep excavations while maintaining a safe working environment and minimising disruption.
What We Did
- Undertook a series of deep trial excavations to accurately locate two 250mm flowmeters within the tidal coastal grass area.
- Installed a dewatering well shaft to control groundwater levels and maintain a safe, dry excavation.
- Carried out deep excavations to expose the existing sewer and connection points.
- Installed trench shoring and ground support systems where required to ensure safe excavation in accordance with industry best practice.
- Completed all backfilling and reinstatement works, including soft landscaping, hard landscaping and carriageway reinstatement using hot rolled asphalt.
The Outcome
JPS Utilities successfully located both flowmeters and completed all excavation and reinstatement works safely within the challenging tidal environment. Through effective groundwater management, robust excavation techniques and high-quality reinstatement, the project was delivered in accordance with the client’s requirements, enabling the next phase of the rising sewer works to proceed on programme while leaving the site fully reinstated.
